Exclusively Housewares 2018 – Sam and Kate’s highlights
Since writing our blog last month giving you a sneak peek into the trends to look out for at Exclusively Housewares 2018, we’ve been counting down the days until this year’s show. With over 160 exhibitors and plenty of new brands attending, to exhibit their new houseware products, Exclusively Housewares 2018 was set to be bigger and better than ever. So when managing director, Kate and account director and trend expert, Sam attended the exhibition on 13th June, we couldn’t wait for them to get back to the office and share their highlights.

Trending products and pretty things

Always on the lookout for the latest trends, Sam headed straight to the Scarlet Opus Trend Display to check out the hottest products to look out for in 2018/2019. Ticking the boxes for the ECO 2.0 trend were products that added style and design to the eco movement including Black & Blum’s sleek reusable food flasks and insulated water bottles, and T & G Woodware Ltd’s wooden and metallic CrushGrind. Products in calming, pastel colours were picking up points for the Clarity trend, with new ranges by Brookes favourites Denby and Le Creuset catching Sam’s eye.

Sam was excited to see that Jean Dubost was awarded a #socool on trend logo by Scarlet Opus for their Natura range of knives, part of their Laguiole tableware range which is breaking new ground by being made from 100% recyclable materials. Featuring a 100% recyclable stainless steel blade and an innovative handle manufactured from a plant-based bioplastic made of corn starch, these knives are 100% biodegradable and compostable. What’s more, they come beautifully packaged in a 100% recycled cardboard box, printed with natural vegetable inks. The perfect, environmentally friendly product!

Along with the trending products, My Gifts Trade launched a new range, ‘I Like Birds’, that caught Sam’s eye. Featuring beautiful housewares adorned with Blue Tits and Puffins, we’re definitely going to be on the lookout for these when they land on the retails shelves soon.

Catching up with clients

While there were plenty of lovely products to lust over, Sam and Kate were not at Exclusively Housewares to just window shop, we also had a few clients to support. As sponsors of the show, BHETA were hosting a jam-packed seminar programme on topics from the key consumer trends for 2018/19 to a guide to online marketing, all of which Kate was busy supporting.

Sam checked in with Creative Products to take a look at some of their latest innovations. She was pleased to note that their new Pro Cook Pouch, a reusable silicone food bag for cooking, freezing a storing food was garnering plenty of attention for ticking the eco-friendly box, while the new Push and Fix, a powerful, long-lasting grip that pushes to a wall or door to fit, also proved popular.

Despite their busy schedules, Sam and Kate also managed to find time to meet some interesting new attendees including Doulton Water who we have been liaising with over National Home Improvement Week – it was great to finally be able to put a face to a name and a get chance to see their products in person! A manufacturer of water filters since 1862, Doulton were showcasing their next generation of home drinking water filtration, the Royal Doulton Elite. But as an avid gym goer, what really caught Sam’s eye was the Taste Portable Filter Bottle, which has its own filter incorporated into the bottle for filtered water on the go. With the health trend continuing to go from strength to strength and Love Island shaking their water bottles at us every evening, we’re confident that this new product will be flying off the shelves!

Summing up their time at this year’s show, Sam commented, “Exclusively Housewares 2018 was such an enjoyable show, with plenty of upbeat conversational matter and lots of chat between suppliers and retailers which is what the show is built on and the reason why it’s one of our favourites to attend. It was great to see the brand showcase and journalist area buzzing with press and Scarlet Opus were on hand to talk through their top trends and exhibition space which was fantastic as always. With so many gorgeous new products to see, I’ve now got a shopping list as long as my arm!”
