Getting around Glee
Throughout the three-day event, our time was split between meeting friends in the industry and getting to know new faces. Always after the latest industry insights, we had a great time putting our years of growing media knowledge to good use discussing the market with Bathgate. Then perhaps another 50% of our time was spent lusting after the latest products to hit the garden centre shelves! With Sam’s trusty pedometer counting our every move, we totted up nearly 50,000 steps between us this week. Surely that’s enough to justify the odd prosecco-shaped refreshment we may have squeezed in whilst catching up with the teams at Meadowview and Halewood?!
Thumbs up for Glee 2017
With over 200 first-time exhibitors at Glee 2017, it was refreshing to see so many exciting new products and manufacturers taking an interest in the garden centre sector, as well as a number of stand-out new products launched by Glee veterans. From Ivyline’s trendy range of interior planters to the eco-friendly Coffee Logs produced by Bio Bean, it looks like garden centre buyers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to stocking up on inspiring products for 2017. It was also great to see our client, Creative Products receiving so much attention around its latest kitchen gadgets. It’s safe to say we weren’t the only ones who were inspired to get cooking that evening!
However, it’s not only buyers who benefitted from Glee’s particularly rich pickings this year. From our conversations with new exhibitors, as well as our own clients who were attending the show, it looks like Glee was given a resounding ‘thumbs up’ this year. Places for next year are already going fast, with many exhibitors booking their preferred spots for Glee 2018 before this year’s show was even over! Perhaps this year’s success was down to Glee’s thought-provoking Retail Lab – a new feature for 2017, showcasing exhibitors’ most on-trend products for the year ahead. Or was it simply the huge amount of high-quality buyers and exhibitors bringing enthusiasm for the garden industry to the NEC in their droves? Whatever it was that kept spirits high this year, Glee 2017 did not disappoint.
