Sam’s students graduate at Staffordshire University!

When she’s not busy in the Brookes & Co office, meeting clients or running around exhibitions, Sam has been teaching on various modules over the last three years on the Advertising and Brand Management BA Hons degree at Staffordshire University. Now, after three years of hard work, Sam has finally celebrated the graduation of her final year students at a ceremony at Trentham Gardens.

With modules including Marketing Fundamentals, Consumer Buying Behaviour, Account Planning, Major Project Assessment and Professional and Personal Development, this exceptional degree prepares students for the world of work in advertising and marketing. From brand and account management, media planning, strategy development to creative work, Sam ensures students are well versed in both theory and appliance.

It’s not all lectures and seminars: students get the chance to work on live briefs for some really exciting projects. Over the past three years, Sam has supported students with work for NYPD based on a recruitment drive for ethnic minorities (involving a trip to New York that the rest of us weren’t jealous about…at all!). Other initiatives included working with the global movement, ‘Creative Conscience,’ and student awards for the marketing network, YCN, plus projects with Fuller’s Frontier Beer.

Students have also researched brand positioning for airport hubs, which included another trip, this time to Holland to research the market, and carried out in-house agency hands-on experience to prepare them for graduate life.

Not only that, Sam has recently been asked to do some guest lecturing on the Film, Video and Production Degree, teaching marketing fundamentals so that students understand how their medium fits in with an overall marketing strategy, and acquire a broad understanding of all the elements of the marketing mix. She has also been helping students understand how to position themselves with agencies or market themselves as freelancers so that they can secure work after they graduate. She’s done such a good job of this that we’ve even got one of the students joining us this summer to help us out on some video production work!

Following a fantastic evening at their final degree show earlier this month, now it’s the time of year where all the hard work pays off, and the students are awarded their grades. As Staffordshire University boasts a fantastic employability rate of 96%, we’re hoping to see lots of these graduates join the industry in the years to come. Maybe some will even join the Brookes & Co team!
